Pandering

A little history

When I first started this site, I was terrified of offending people. I was terrified of it because I love people. I love helping people and the thought of making someone feel bad made me feel horrible.

I wrote about safe subjects, I had safe opinions and anything that was remotely controversial I would explain until a professional meeting attendee would fall asleep.

What was the result? Long-winded posts full of pandering fluff. I quickly derailed articles to explain my full stance on a sentence so no one was confused. You know what the results of those posts were? No one was offended- because no one was reading. Mission accomplished.

My promise

I will no longer fill my posts with pandering fluff. I’m explaining my heart right here so I can point people to it in the future: I don’t want to offend or hurt anyone. If you read one of my articles and it offends you, this wasn’t because I was trying to attack you; you just weren’t the right audience for that post. I only want to provide honest, insightful and concise content. That means I have to eliminate all of the extraneous explanations, and fluff.

I understand that there are exceptions to every rule. If you are one of the exceptions, then don’t be offended. I will no longer pad whole articles with cautionary language as it makes my content boring.

Who this site is for

This site is for motivated people and people who need motivation. This is a no excuses, get-your-butt-in-gear back-hand of entrepreneurial reality.

I will write with passion, I will write with humor and I will write with art. I will embrace the sloppiness that is humanity and not worry about polishing ((http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2008/05/rough-edges-and.html)). This site is my art.

That means some people will like it, and others won’t. I’m OK with that.

Who this site is not for

Because of this change, that means I’m alienating some people from my audience. This is something I’m OK with and I hope you can accept. If you have trouble understanding why I’m OK with this, then I submit this quote from Bill Cosby:

I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.”
– Bill Cosby

I’m done trying to please everybody. If this means you, and I’m talking to the person who is reading this, I greatly appreciate your readership up to this point. I’m sure you’re a wonderful person and I hope you find another site out there that resonates well with you.

This site is not for people who like excuses. This site is a kick to the butt motivator. Some articles will be really insightful and artistic and others will be military style motivation. If you’re looking for someone to tell you everything is going to be OK and you’re not responsible for anything that happens to you, then I highly suggest you turn on an afternoon talk show. Do not read this website. You’ll only be mad and want to leave angry comments.
